What do the contents of your handbag say about you?

When Maddie from Dinner with Maddie tagged me to write this post, I was thrilled. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I asked you guys if you wanted an updated peek into my handbag a week or so ago, so this tag couldn't have come along at a better time. However, this has a bit of a twist. This will be completely uncensored; no bullshit, no Instagram-worthy setups, no planted items to make me look cool/smart/popular, just exactly what happens to be in my bag at the moment. If you read Maddie's post, you'll see that she is a wise one indeed - a woman's handbag is extremely private and can say a heck of a lot about the woman that carries it. So, what do the contents of my handbag say about me? Let's take a look...

Like any other girl, I have a lot of rubbish floating around - receipts, old train tickets, empty boxes of medicine - the lot. However, the rest of the items contained within my daily handbag say more about me than you might realise. For example...

A stack of post-its and several pens tells you that I'm a fairly organised person and that I will never find myself in a sticky situation without a pen. I'm useful to have around for situations that require filling out forms, I'll tell you that. I also make more to-do lists and notes than anyone I know.

Packs of medicine including a box of Piriteze and a sanitary pad tells you that not only do I like to be prepared for any situation, but I am also a person that suffers terribly from hay fever, and for that reason I hate British summers!

Multiple lip products tell you that despite my desperate attempts not to fall into the category of 'lipstick hoarder', I have inadvertently failed. To be fair, I have mixed it up a bit as my choices are pretty damn varied: Mehr from MAC, Estée Lauder's Crystal Baby, a Nivea lip balm, and a Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm Stain (long name much?) in Honey. Now that's definitely a lip colour for every occasion!

'I am that girl' by Alexis Jones tells you that I'm trying my hardest to get motivated and figure out what I want to do with my life/career. It also tells you that I have a wonderful friend that gave me this book for my 22nd birthday to help get me going. Said friend is actually Scarlett, the founder of an online magazine that I write for called Scriptoeris. A lot of posts have been going up recently so go and check it out! (Shameless plug alert)

My Bose noise cancelling headphones tell you that I appreciate quiet. These things are great for blocking out background noise when you want to listen to music on the tube, and also work perfectly even without music if you want to cut out all of the chatter to study or read. The fact that they're still in their fancy case also tells you that they were ridiculously pricey and are therefore treated like my own offspring.

THE BLOGGER MADE ME BUY IT TAG

So the other week, I was catching up with my Bloglovin' reading - as one does - and I came across this tag on Adrienne's amazing blog - Late Night Nonsense. If you haven't already checked out Late Night Nonsense, then I would highly recommend that you do ASAP!

1/ Who are your most influential bloggers? Who are the ones that you really rely on for reviews and swatches?

There's a group of about 5 bloggers that I will always turn to before parting with my money - Kate, Vivianna, Lily, Esteé and Lily. If I'm thinking of buying a pricier product, I will always search all of their blogs to see if they have reviewed said product and what they thought of it before even considering to buy it. However, for professional swatches, no one beats Temptalia.

2/ Do you buy a product solely as a result from one review from your favourite bloggers, or do you look for more reviews from others?

Like I said above, I will usually seek the advice of my top five, and if not enough of them have tried/reviewed the product I'm wanting to try, then I will look further afield and just do a bit of googling! However, nothing beats going and actually looking at the product and swatching it in person to make sure it suits your skin type/tone etc.

3/ What is your most favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

Hrm, that's a tricky one. I'd probably say either the REN Glycolactic Mask, the NARS And God Created The Woman Palette or one of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.

4/ What is your least favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

Probably La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo - It wasn't bad per say but it just didn't really do anything for my skin.

5/ Name 5 products you have bought recently as a result of blogs.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light, Nails Inc Gel Nail Polish in Porchester Square, NARS Ride Up To The Moon Palette, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and NARS Radient Creamy Concealer. Love me a bit of NARS.

6/ Have you ever given into blogger hype? If so, which hype?

I'm pretty good at stepping back and saying; "Do I really need this?" so I try not to really give into blogging hype. Saying that, I probably have far too many foundations due to the never ending search for 'the one' that's forever encouraged by the blogging world!

7/ Have you ever avoided blogger hype? If so, which hype?

I've so far managed to avoid buying the Naked 3 Palette, as I already own the first two plus the Naked Basics Palette, however I bet you that by the time this post is actually published, I will have my hands on one. Let's just see...

8/ Is everything you buy based on blogger reviews or are there some items you buy without checking out a review?

I've bought plenty of products in the past based off of just swatching them in store and deciding then and there, but 8 times out of 10 I won't be as happy with my purchase as I would have been if I had done my research first. Sure, you can test out the colour etc of the product in store, but it's not until you get to read the reviews that you find out about longevity and other features that can only be found out by longer-term testing. Long story short - I like to do my research.

Eleven Things About Me:

1. My favourite holiday ever was to Siem Reap in Cambodia - absolutely breath-taking. Second to that was New York :)

2. I hate coke/pepsi + anything coke flavoured.

3. I have had 2 surgeries on my eyes, both under the age of 3.

4. Believe it or not, I really dislike flying.

5. Both my first and last names are spelt in the Scottish way, my father and his side of the family are from Aberdeen in Scotland.

6. I HATE Thai food.

7. My favourite TV shows include; The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town, Scrubs and Top Gear.

8. For my uni course, I have to live in each country of the languages I am studying for at least 3 months. I loved Madrid so that's at the top of my list for Spanish, and I'm not sure about Russia, but I'm thinking about St. Petersburg :)

9. I am a total technology nerd. I am the person in the family that people come to to fix things!

10. I hardly drink. I pretty much hate the tast of most alcohol (excluding baileys mmmmm)

11. My favourite time of year is winter. I am much better suited to being cold than hot, I am literally counting down the days until I'm back in the UK being cold again :)

What reason made you start your blog?

For me, it was the next step in my 'online career', shall we say. I wanted to branch out from my primary online platform (youtube) and delve into the fashion world a bit more.

If you could live one place, Where would it be?

Tough question. I know it sounds silly, but I would live in London. It's just where I honestly feel most at home and whenever I'm away I miss it.

Who is your ultimate Girl Crush?

Hrmm tricky. Probably Olivia Wilde. However, after watching The Dark Knight Rises, I am in love with Marion Cotillard.

What is your Guilty Pleasure?

Again, tricky! Probably snuggling up in bed on a friday night, whilst the rest of the student population is out, with some dairy milk chocolate and a good movie!

Who is your Favourite Designer?

This is an ever-changing answer for me. Although I do love a bit of Alexander Wang.

Is there anything unusual about you?

Erm, I don't think so? I have pretty big feet (8 UK).

Do you like to Save, Spend or Splurge?

I've always been rubbish as saving, yet too afraid to splurge, so I guess I'm a spender!

What is your go to item?

Brown eyeliner. Not too harsh yet makes my lashes look a lot fuller :)

If you could be born in any era, Which would it be?

Probably in the Hollywood Glamour era, it looked so, well, glamorous!!

What is your favourite Lipstick colour?

Fuchsia/Magenta Pink (MAC Madly Magenta, Snow Orchid, to name a few). I love a bold lip ;)

If you were to be daring, What would you do?

Jump out of a plane. I've always wanted to do that!

£20 Makeup Challenge!

Hey guys!

Not long ago I was tagged by the lovely Maddie (clothesandcurls on YT) to do the £20 makeup challenge. The tag itself is pretty self-explanatory, you basically have to come up with a look that costs you no more than £20 to create.

This, as you can imagine, posed a great challenge for me, but in the end I ended up discovering some really great (and super affordable!) products. Watch the video below and tell me what you think!
