For months we've been hearing nothing but praise from the folks across the pond about Sephora's Formula X nail polishes, and finally it's my turn to give you my two cents. A truly extensive line was in the progress of being unpacked before my eyes as I entered the Sephora on Gran Vía last week - boy, I was like a kid in a candy store. They retail for €12.90 (£10.60 aprox.) so I decided that I would only limit myself to one, and although it took me about 20 minutes to decide (no joke), I finally left Sephora with the shade 'Provocative' and a huge grin on my face.

Ok, let's start off with the basics - £11 is pretty darn steep for a nail polish, and ml/£ the Formula X range is more expensive than most. I did a little maths* for you guys (you're welcome!) just to get an idea of how this line ranks price-wise, and I was actually pretty shocked. As you can see, it is only beaten by Nails Inc, a brand that I hardly ever shell out on due to its absurd price:quantity ratio. I was most surprised to find out that it is even pricier than OPI, another brand that I have a limited collection of. Let's just say, they're more expensive per ml that I would like, but at the end of the day, if something is worth the price tag then I don't mind parting with my cash. However, the question still remains - was it worth it?

This applied nicely - being completely opaque by the second coat (although the first was a bit streaky) - and the formula has a good consistency. The colour itself is a stunner - a bright sky blue with a lovely cream finish to rival higher end brands. I got to day 2/3 before I noticed any significant chip-wear, and by day 5 it was time for me te take it off. I'd say as far as longevity goes, I'd class it as above average as when it did start to chip, they were hardly noticeable and, unlike with some other nail polishes, this wasn't necessarily the beginning of the end - it still held up well until I decided to take it off, and even then it wasn't at what I like to call the 'skanky nail' point.

Overall, it performed admirably, but the asking price is just a smidge too high for my liking. If there was a unique colour that really caught my eye, I wouldn't have any trouble buying another one as the formula is good, but for fairly dupe-able colours, I'd stick to brands like Essie, which has a much more satisfying ml/£ price. However, if you do have any colour recommendations, please feel free to send them my way!

*THE MATHS:
Essie - 15ml for £7.99 = 53p/ml
Seche - 14ml for £8.49 = 60p/ml
OPI - 15ml for £11.95 = 79p/ml
Formula X - 12ml for £10.60 = 88p/ml
Nails Inc. - 10ml for £11.00 £1.10/ml

  7. If you do try them, only buy one or two the first time because I've heard that not all of them have a great formula, plus their a tad pricey!! x
