We always hear "Numbers don't matter. It's about what you love doing so don't concentrate on it". Now don't get me wrong, I totally agree with this way if thinking - blogging should be about sharing your passion and talent with the world, not counting page views and press samples that arrive at your door. However, I still find myself checking how many followers I have every morning when I wake up - not in order to count down the number until I get one of those snazzy Benefit gift boxes landing on my doorstep (although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't waiting for that!) but because when I wake up to see that I've lost a few followers, it makes me wonder what I've done wrong, or who I've offended. Now I know that I shouldn't care about that either, but I am only human after all so it's impossible to stop these kind of thoughts creeping into my head occasionally. Being the perfectionist that I am, and having put the amount of work into my blog that I have been, I can't say that it doesn't disappoint me when I lose a reader or two. Of course, I'm not going to change myself or my blogging style for a few followers here or there, but it does make you think - what did I do wrong? The problem with that though is that you try not to offend anyone, but then your content can become a bit stale because no one wants to read someone who never has an opinion on anything, who is never passionate and never wants to expose their faults or desires. So what can you do? Just keep on trucking sister - you'll reach your goal eventually, but only hard work, effort and time well invested will get you there.

  2. I relate so much to this post! I hate losing followers, it really does make you question what it is that's going wrong with your blog. I keep repeating the passion mantra and hope for the best :) x

  3. Hey Isobel... I've been thinking about this one, and I am wondering if, as long as you have a general trend of growth on your blog, perhaps it's not necessarily the case that you have done something wrong. Writing a blog is a very personal experience, full of individual choices, but so is reading one; sometimes it's not you've done something wrong, you may just not be exactly to the taste of that reader... plus there are always a few that will follow just to see if you'll follow back.
I feel like I am still very new to this blogging lark, but that's basically what I've understood from the ladies at ABM in their Blog Life course! :)

  5. Great post - I do get upset when I lose followers as thats really disheartening. Worst is when they follow you for a giveaway then unfollow after - that's just rude in my opinion! x

  7. Hard habit to break for sure.....Its like a roller coaster I can't get off LOL. Makes me feel better that a large following blog like yours still has that :) Love your blog!

  8. I've heard something once that says: when you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no-one. I don't tend to lose many followers, but my blog is still small. I wouldn't like it to be a bland space, trying to please all.

  9. Amen to that! I sometimes get obsessed with numbers too and I rely on them a bit too much. Need to work on that!

  11. Yeah, I'd rather have less followers than try to please everyone :) x
