The title of this post is not actually referring to my current state of mind, but more so what I want to achieve. Final year of uni is tough and I'm definitely finding it extremely hard, so although I feel either mentally drained or ridiculously lazy at any give time, I need to get to a place where I can be more productive and positive. Unfortunately, two days ago I broke my spending ban slightly - however I don't feel too bad about it because the emotional link I still have to shopping and the satisfaction of visiting that YSL counter really helped me to pick myself up again, if only temporarily. So yeah, I've violated my ban, but I did last a month to be fair and, what's more, I am still planning to continue on until the end, and just accept this as a necessary blip. Although emotional shopping is certainly something I do not want to endorse or encourage, for me at the moment my education is my highest priority, so sacrificing the progress of other projects for the sake of a good mark at the end of it is worth it to me. So if a fancy new mascara and lip tint manage to brighten up my week - so what? As long as it's only this once, I'm fine with it.

So after that intense ramble, you may be wondering what I actually got! In order to brighten up things a bit I decided to grab this amazing bright jumper from River Island - it's really simple but the cutout detail is really nice and it adds so much to a boring outfit. Then I decided to head to my local Debenhams with a simple mission - to check out YSL's latest lip release - the Huile Volupte. This is basically supposed to be a tint, a lip balm, and a gloss all in one, and I settled for Shade 8, a gorgeous purple based pink. My lips are terribly dry and I am awful at remembering to keep them moisturised, but I figured that pretty YSL packaging might just be able to remind me! For my final purchase I finally delved into the world of high-end mascaras. I don't entirely know if this was a wise choice because I didn't do any research, but this was the best looking brush for me from YSL, and I decided to get the YSL Babydoll Mascara in 02 which is a dark brown, as I've been meaning to repurchase a brown mascara for a while now but haven't been able to find one in the drugstore. With my fair complexion and blonde hair, brown mascara really is the better choice for me day-to-day, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

So although I broke my spending ban, I think it was fairly valid (well that's what I keep telling myself...) but now I am back on track and ready to complete my second month of beauty-free purchases.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? Let me know!

  6. Honestly... saving and spending bans are important, but if a little purchase every now and then improves your mood and brightens your day... I see nothing wrong with it. You're not abusing it and you're not spending a ton of money every month, so look at it as a reward for behaving so good on the first month! :)

I'm really curious about the YSL oils, let me know how you get on with it!

  9. I totally agree, and I'm still going strong so I think it was a worthwhile purchase! The oil is amazing - honestly it's consistency is almost like melted, really fine lip balm, and it looks really pretty on the lips xx
