We've all been there, coming home after a long, hot day and looking like your face has in fact melted off. However, growing up in a hot, humid country has taught me a few things, and today I am going to share my knowledge with all of you. Over the years I have found a few gems that can quite literally save your face during this hot weather and have compiled the formula for a foolproof summer look!

Ok, so first things first - a primer. Now I know that this is fairly obvious but I just have to mention it. Many people think that if they have drier skin, then they don't need a primer. Wrong! I have seriously dry skin but depend heavily on my primer to keep me looking good during the summer months. There are a few different types of face primers, but it basically comes down to two different types - silicone based and silicone free. General rule of thumb is that oilier/combo skin will want a silicone baser primer and normal/dry/sensitive skin are better off sticking to a silicone free primer (don't worry, I have a post planned which will explain this in more detail!) For my dry skin, a personal favourite is the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer. The texture of this is moisturiser-like, and focuses on keeping the skin hydrated rather than being mattifying. A good example of a silicone based primer is Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer Potion (what a mouthful!)

When it comes to foundation, that is totally up to you. Everyone is different - some need more coverage, some want a totally matte finish - and it's entirely up to you. The key to keeping your face fresh all day is in the choice of primer and powder. However, if you want to skip one of those steps, then you might want to opt for a longer-wearing foundation. Right, what's next? Powder. I have tried many powders over the year to battle the humidity but none do it quite like the MUFE HD powder. What this does is help to 'dry down' your foundation but without adding any additional coverage or cakey-ness. It's also the longest lasting powder I've come across and I wouldn't dream of battling a Hong Kong summer without it. Lastly for skin are just some oil control films, they are super cheap and keep you from looking like a sweaty oily mess - simple!

Right, onto eyes. I am a huge fan of the MAC Paint Pots, the Maybelline Colour Tattoos and the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows, but when it comes to a fool-proof base, it has to be the MUFE Aqua Creams. These bad boys are waterproof, and when I say waterproof I mean it. I have actually gone swimming with them on! You don't need to set them with a powder or anything - they are good to go! My favourite is the colour 13 - it's a gorgeous champagne colour that I can simply swipe over my lids and be on my merry way. Next we have eyeliner. Now this can be tricky as everyone has different shaped lids. The best bet is to opt for a waterproof pencil, but if you can't get you hands on a good one, then the second best is a good gel eyeliner like Bobbi Brown's Gel Eyeliner. Gel eyeliners generally have a much better staying power than pencil or liquid, especially in humid weather. When it comes to mascara, I can't really suggest anything as I don't have a favourite waterproof formula, so just use what you're comfortable with - preferably waterproof/resistant though!

Brows, they really do shape the face don't they? I have always had trouble keeping my brows in tip-top condition throughout the whole day, but I have recently found my holy grail - enter the MUFE Aqua Brow.  Now before you say anything, no, this post is not sponsored by Make Up Forever - their products are just the best for battling the heat and humidity. Never before have my brows looked so good all day. This is definitely worth a try if you struggle with your eyebrows fading throughout the day.

Last but not least we have the lips! For this category I have one word for you all - stains. No one wants to get home at the end of the day to discover that their favourite lippy has completely melted at the bottom of their bag. Stains are perfect as they are long lasting and practically waterproof. However, they can be drying, but there are two types of stains that last all day and keep your lips moisturised. The first is a balm stain, like the Clinique Chubby Sticks or, my personal favourites, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. These come in bright pinks like 'Lovesick' for the more adventurous amongst us,  or great everyday colours like 'Honey'. These smell amazing and not only stain your lips, but also keep them super moisturised - perfect!  The other option is a glossier lip. The YSL Glossy Stains are perfect for this, but a tad pricey. A great alternative however are the Maybelline Superstay 10hr Stain Glosses. These are like liquid lipsticks that stain your lips even once the glossy feeling has disappeared. All of the above are the key to gorgeous lips that last all day long.

I know this was quite a long post but I hope I have been a bit of help to those of you currently struggling to stay looking your best during the long summer days. If you think I've missed anything or want to recommend a product, leave a comment below!
