Our hands are hard workers, and they deserve a lot more TLC than they usually get treated to. Once a week (when I have time) I like to sit down and give my hands a good pampering. I've been laying off the nail polish in the last month or so to let my nails breathe, so I have been dosing them in the Essie Protein Base Coat to help them gain some of their strength back and keep all this damn flakiness at bay. However, we're skipping to the end of the routine - my paws go through a lot of pampering before I get to painting them...

1. Nail brush
So much dirt and grime (sorry!) gets lodged under those tips if you're not careful, so having a nail brush to hand is a must have for me. Keeping your nails clean - especially when they're longer - is essential to keeping them healthy, and it's so easy to do! I got this one as part of a nail care collection at Boots.

2. Glass nail file
I cannot express how much better a glass nail file is for your nails, and this one from Leighton Denny is a right treat to use. Firstly, they seal together the keratin layer at the end of the nail, preventing peeling and chipping, and unlike traditional nail files, they can be swiped both ways, again protecting from the weakening of the tip. Not to mention, glass files last forever - providing you don't drop them!

3. Scrub 'em up
One of my favourite and most recent additions to my nail routine is the Rituals Miracle Scrub, which is basically a combination of their amazing Miracle Balm and a hand scrub in one. It contains nourishing oils that help to restore the skins elasticity and deeply moisturise your hands and cuticles, not to mention making them smell incredible too!

4. Treatment time
Like I mentioned above, I like to treat my nails to a nourishing base coat to keep them strong and healthy. Although I'm currently using the Essie Protein Base Coat, my all time favourite is the OPI Nail Envy. There is nothing more frustrating than a fresh manicure being ruined by a broken or flaky nail, so investing your time and money into using a quality base coat can make all the difference.

So, those are my tips for keeping my hands and nails in tip-top shape. Have any secrets of your own that you'd like to share? I'd love to hear them, so please leave a comment below!

  1. Great post! I absolutely love glass nail files, I could not go back to plain ones! I've never tried a hand scrub before, interesting but totally makes sense! Sounds luxurious :)

  2. Glass nail files are my favourite! I was converted last year! They leave such a stunning finish and most of all they don't ware down and rip like other nail files!
