MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow - £10
Berry - Swoon. Is there any other colour that can so perfectly sum up this gorgeous time of year? Vampy lips, smouldering eyes and crisp, elegant nails are all the rage when the temperatures start to drop, and who am I to question this annual tradition? In fact, this year I am taking it one step further. I usually just stick to the classic polishes and the sheer, berry lips, but this time round I'm brining out the big guns and adding eyes to the equation. Daring, some may say - but if you do it right, this combination can become an instant show-stopper. One of the best berry eyeshadows I've come across (that doesn't leave you looking like you've contracted conjunctivitis) is the gorgeous 'Cranberry' from MAC. It has a smooth, metallic finish that can be used as a wash all over the lid, or intensified as part of a sultry, smokey eye. To avoid looking like the undead - never a good look - I suggest paring this with a brown or bronze eyeliner to make it feel softer and more autumnal rather than a heavy black that could be lead to it being mistaken for Halloween makeup. Need to find a similar colour but have a smaller budget? Try the MUA eyeshadow in Shade 25 (available from Superdrug for £1 - bargain!)
Now onto the lips, which you can adjust according your mood. Feeling daring? Check out MAC's 'Rebel', which a gorgeous, deep raspberry that compliments any skin tone beautifully - a statement lip that will turn heads all day. Haven't quite worked up that kind of courage yet? Colours like L'Oreal's Stain Splash in Milady or Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush will help you to achieve that gorgeous berry pout minus the stress. Don't forget that you can change the intensity with the same lip colour - dab it on if you just want a light stain, or build it up if you want a statement look - easy.
See? Embracing those berry tones doesn't have to be scary! You can adjust your look to suit your personality. Don't feel brave enough to pull of the berry eyes? Stick to the lip and nail combo instead. Just have fun! What are your favourite berry tones for this season? Let me know in the comment section below...
